Colorful events for the most scenic of seasons
With a long hot summer behind you and a long cold winter ahead, fall is the time to take a deep breath and enjoy the perfect weather and extraordinary color. Wisconsinites have a number of events to help make the most out of what may be the most beautiful season of all.
Kick off October with, what else but Oktoberfest. Black River Country’s version of this fall classic is held on the first weekend in October at the Sand Creek Brewing Company. The event features food vendors, artists, live entertainment, brewery tours and more.
Fall is the harvest season in Wisconsin. Celebrate the bounty of the land at the 15th Annual Harvest Fest in Boulder Junction, the second Saturday in October, with kids’ games, fall treats, a costume parade, hayrides and “Shop the Haystack.”
One of the fruits harvested in the fall in the Northwoods is the cranberry. Eagle River in Vilas County celebrates the revered red berry with Cranberry Fest, held the first weekend in October. In addition to sampling dishes made with cranberries, you can browse the flea market, antique market and a craft fair with more than 350 vendors.
Minocqua’s annual Hall-O-Wine event on the third Saturday in October features wines, cheese and appetizers, as well as live music and a casino night. It takes place at the Minocqua Country Club in Oneida County.
