Boulder Junction Wisconsin shopping (or whatever destination you use)Shop Wisconsin like an expert

Wisconsin is filled with charming stores loaded with items you won’t find anywhere else. These small shops have everything from the latest stylish apparel to quirky vintage home goods. The only challenge is where to start shopping. But don’t worry—our crew of Wisconsin Travel Experts are here to help you uncover some of the best stores in the state.

Boulder Junction

Kristen Carlson (a.k.a. Miss Northerner) lives and breathes all things northern Wisconsin. She recently paid a visit to the collection of shops and stores in downtown Boulder Junction and found a lot to love, including Boulder Junction Trading Company, a store that she said was “literally my dream come true.”

“I must have made at least three rounds around this huge store and each time, I found something new to add to my wish-list!”

Fashion and lifestyle blogger Gabrielle Loomis knows a few things about shopping. With her kids in tow, she recently explored Middleton’s shopping scene. One of her favorite stops was Tradition Children’s Market, which she called “the most lovely children’s store I’ve ever been to.”

“Our kids had fun playing with wooden trucks inside the playhouse while I shopped for gifts.”

Destiny Wallen is on a mission to hike all the state parks in Wisconsin. This winter, her travels took her to Rhinelander, the Northwoods community that’s home to the mythical Hodag. Naturally, she found a lot to discover in Hodag Country, including a shop that celebrates all things Hodag—the Hodag Store.

“I bet this place had 1,000+ Hodags!”

Rusk County

Outdoors enthusiast Krysten Potega loves fishing and hunting, but when she’s not out in the wilderness, she also enjoys a little bit of shopping. In Rusk County—a place she says “should be on everyone’s bucket list”—Artisan’s Boutiquelet was one of her can’t-miss stops.

“This adorable shop boasts a variety of items at bargain prices. Their wide selection of jewelry, candles, wines, art and so much more makes it the perfect place to pick up gifts for your loved ones before you head home.”

Chocolates for every sweet toothSample heaven at these favorite chocolate shops

Chocolate lovers: we have your fix. Wisconsin’s craft candy makers turn out some of the best sweets around, and we know the best spots to find truffles, cordials, caramels and more. Treat yourself to something delicious or pick up a special gift for someone you love–or better yet, do both! Here are some of our favorite Wisconsin chocolate shops.

Middleton: Chocolaterian

If you love chocolate, you’ll want to pay a visit to this charming café. While the café’s bistro fare draws a loyal following, the star here is the bakery case that’s loaded with an assortment of traditional favorites (like flourless chocolate cake), along with a few items you didn’t know you needed, (like Badger Bait, a unique concoction that contains the stuff of chocolate dreams: fudgy brownie, chocolate buttercream and chocolate ganache—you’d better order two).

Oneida County: Dan’s Minocqua Fudge

Generations of travelers have headed to Oneida County just to enjoy the great outdoors. At least that’s what they tell their friends. Step into Dan’s and you’ll see another reason why people head to this scenic northern Wisconsin destination. Dan’s has the largest selection of handmade chocolates in the Northwoods, including 100 varieties of hard candy and taffy. And that’s not all: Dan’s has ice cream!

West Bend: Candyman on Main

There was a time when just about every small-town Main Street had a charming candy store with a dazzling assortment of sweets. Fortunately, West Bend still has such a place. Candyman on Main is a timeless treasure. You name it, they have it: chocolate pretzels, truffles, angel food candy and much more.
