Is the thought of a summer concert music to your ears? Bright lights, balmy nights, your best friends and your favorite tunes. Of course you know about Milwaukee’s big music festival, but what about some of the state’s smaller concerts? They have smaller crowds and better views—and sometimes the admission’s free! These performances may be smaller in scale, but you won’t run short on fun. Here are a few shows you should check out this summer.
Rhinelander – July 11-14, 2019
Country music fans, join the fun! For more than 40 years, the Hodag Country Festival has been bringing some of the biggest names in country music to the Northwoods, and this year’s lineup is no exception. Marquee acts like LOCASH, Lady Antebellum and Neal McCoy will all take the stage at this four-day extravaganza.
Boulder Junction – Wednesdays during summer, 7-9pm
Music on Main in Boulder Junction is perfect for the eclectic music lover. This weekly concert series features Midwest bands of all genres, from R&B and jazz to country, pop, folk, rock and bluegrass. Come early and shop Boulder’s charming downtown and grab a tasty dinner, then spread out a blanket or relax in a lawn chair for a musical treat.
Middleton – Evenings throughout the summer (check schedule for details)
Capital Brewery specializes in brewing German-style lagers and has won over 240 medals, but it also has great entertainment on tap. The outdoor Bier Garten hosts concerts throughout the summer, with bands performing everything from polka to modern rock. Grab a refreshment and enjoy the show!
West Bend – Thursdays, 6:30-9:30pm
Every Thursday night from June 7-September 6, free concerts take place in Old Settlers Park in downtown West Bend. The concerts are sponsored by the Downtown West Bend Association. Admission is free, food is available and there are raffles every week. There are some great featured acts this summer, including rock, pop, country and jazz performers.
Fitchburg – July 18, 2019, and August 15, 2019, 6pm-9pm
It’s a party in the park! Be sure to mark your calendar for the third Monday of June, July and August for this lively party at McKee Farms Park. Bring a picnic basket and a bottle of wine, or get dinner and drinks from one of the many food and beverage carts on hand. Food and drink carts open at 6pm, and headliners take the stage at 7pm.
